Subaru Suruga (駿河 すばる, Suruga Subaru) [1] is a supporting character in the series. She is one of Ai Hayasaka's friends at Shuchi'in.
Origin[]
Subaru's last name is derived from Suruga Province (駿河国) where Mount Fuji is located, which is also where the Elixir of Immortality was destroyed towards the end of The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.
Appearance[]
Subaru has long black hair and hazel eyes.
She wears her Shuchi'in school uniform modified to match up with kogal fashion.
Personality[]
Subaru enjoys talking about romance that she wasn't afraid to ask Kaguya Shinomiya about the nature of her relationship with the President. She considers herself and Mirin Hinokuchi to be Ai Hayasaka's closest friends, as well as guardians.
She gets competitive when she realizes Kaguya is closer to Ai than she thought, trying to outdo Kaguya in how well they each know her.

Etymology[]
- The name Subaru is written in hiragana (すばる), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (昴), it could possibly mean "Pleiades", a group of more than 800 stars located about 410 light-years from Earth in the constellation Taurus.
- Subaru's surname Suruga means "fast" (駿) (suru) and "river, stream" (河) (ka/ga).
