“ | Once... I blindly believed a rumor and wound up hurting people, so I'm trying to find healthier ways to satisfy my curiosity. | ” |
—Onodera to Kaguya Shinomiya, Vol 18. Chapter 172, Page 17 |
Rei Onodera (
Appearance[]
Rei has light shoulder-length hair which is stylized in loose drills. She wears the standard girl's school uniform with a woolly button up sweater. Her drill-like hair got more loose with her every appearance until it was replaced with wavy hair instead.
Personality[]
She is a fairly calm girl under normal circumstances and is fairly open-minded since she shows a passing interest in Ishigami reading light novels. When involved with the Cheer Club or the culture festival committee, she becomes far more energetic.
She is also fairly caring. Seeing Iino as a friend, she frequently watches out for her.
She is a very curious person. In the past, she took part in a large amount of gossip, such as the rumors surrounding Ishigami. She would always believe gossips without question, which resulted in her saying awful things to people that were negatively involved in the rumor. After seeing that Ishigami was not like what rumors suggested, she realizes the wrong in her ways. As shown in her confrontation with Kaguya, she now tries to directly confirm a rumor for herself before deciding whether or not it was real.
She is a rather intelligent girl, placing within the top fifty among her class in the second semester finals.
History[]
The eldest child of the president of a jewelry company[2], Onodera was introduced as a fellow Red Cheer Club member that Yu Ishigami joined. During practice, she tells Ishigami that with what he did he's still living without a care. Hearing Ishigami's explanation she seems to act chill with Ishigami after that. She even comforted him after he lost the race.
Onodera appears again as a member of Culture Festival Committee. This time, she joins Miko Iino in allowing for the bonfire event of the Culture Festival to be held by gaining public acceptance. Throughout the festival, she is mostly seen with Iino as they are both in the committee and a staff for their classes' haunted house.
During Tsubame Koyasu's Christmas Party, Onodera seems to be looking out for Iino. She even offers a plain water for drunk Iino to drink. Sometime during the rest of the winter break, she hangs out at Iino's house along with Kobachi Osaragi. She senses that Iino had begun to develop feelings for Ishigami, and encourages her to make use of the situation to make Ishigami do things for her.
In Chapter 172, Onodera reveals that she overheard Kaguya Shinomiya sleep talk about her relationship with Miyuki. She senses that Kaguya wants to keep the relationship a secret, and thus does not reveal the truth to a curious Iino.
In Chapter 189, Onodera watches over a heartbroken Iino. She comes across Chika Fujiwara, who is doing the same thing. The two discuss Iino's relationship with Ishigami, and the two agree over wanting to support Iino's crush on Ishigami. They then get into an argument with Kaguya and Osaragi, who are supporters of Ishigami's crush on Tsubame Koyasu.
