Miyuki and Kei's Mother is an unnamed character mentioned several times throughout the series. She is the estranged wife of Papa Shirogane and the mother of Miyuki Shirogane and Kei Shirogane.
Appearance[]
Myuki's mother's facial features greatly resemble Kei Shirogane. She was shown with shoulder-length hair during Miyuki Shirogane's childhood when he was applying for an elite kindergarten[1] and then with waist-length hair when she left the Shirogane household[2].
Personality[]
Miyuki and Kei's Mother was described by Papa Shirogane as a popular woman, whom he went to great lengths to impress, mirroring Miyuki Shirogane's struggle to impress Kaguya Shinomiya. Besides being popular, she was also extremely ambitious. Described as "both a realist and an egoist", Miyuki and Kei's mother chased her ambitions through cold and calculating planning, with the only metric mattering to her being quantitative success. Such ambitions included making her family successful, at the cost of their happiness. She helped her husband cultivate his business, exerting her influence to catapult it into success.
When that business failed, her love for him faded and she started placing her high expectations on her children, such as by making Miyuki apply to an elite kindergarten and several prestigious elementary schools when he was young. After Miyuki failed to meet her expectations, she gradually lost interest in him and only took his little sister, the smarter of the two with her, when she left Papa Shirogane.[3] Despite the coldness of her actions, she viewed them positively: she believed that the stress she caused Miyuki by abandoning him at a young age was necessary for his personal growth. Even when directly confronted by Kei about how damaging her actions were toward her family, she couldn't recognize why she was upset, believing that she had treated Miyuki and Kei well.
History[]
Papa Shirogane once courted Miyuki and Kei's mother, with the courtship culminating in marriage. Together they had two children, Miyuki and Kei. During their marriage, Papa Shirogane began a business; this business became highly successful, in no large part to the influence of Miyuki and Kei's mother. Hoping to see success in the lives of her children, Miyuki and Kei's mother had Miyuki Shirogane apply to an elite kindergarten and several prestigious elementary schools. When he failed, she grew distant and cold toward him.
She left the Shirogane household approximately 7 years ago[4], sometime after the failure of Papa Shirogane's business, abandoning Miyuki and only taking Kei along with her. She reasoned that she couldn't properly raise two children alone, and it would be easier to take care of Kei since they were both girls. [5] This arrangement initially functioned well, but fell apart after Miyuki and Kei's mother found a boyfriend and new lover. The stress of seeing her mother dating, the inability to emphasize with her mother's harsh worldview, and the guilt of leaving behind her father and brother caused Kei to depart from Miyuki and Kei's mother, despite the financial stability of her household.[6]
Sometime after Miyuki departed to the United States for university, Miyuki and Kei's mother invited Kei out to dinner. During the dinner, she offered to take Kei to Shanghai with her, and use her connections to secure Kei an education and future more prosperous than what Shuchiin Academy could offer. Kei wholeheartedly rejected the offer, rebuking her mother for misunderstanding her needs as well as the needs of her older brother.

Miyuki Shirogane[]
Miyuki Shirogane is her son. She left him with his father when they split up for practical reasons, this in turn made him think he is stupid and useless. However, she believes her son is the type of person who cannot grow up without pressure.
Kei Shirogane[]
Kei Shirogane is her daughter. She briefly brought Kei along with her when she started to split up from Kei's father. However, the stress of witnessing her mother dating again made Kei run away and back to her father. Despite the estranged relationship, they have remained in touch with each other.
Papa Shirogane[]
Papa Shirogane is her husband. It is heavily implied she harbours no romantic feelings to him any more when they split up. They are still not divorced, even if they have been apart for years.
